Those of you who know Jana - Little Miss no fear, dare devil, etc - will be shocked to know that she was not the recipient of our first ER trip.
No, it was Kara Mae!!!!!
Kara refuses to sit down in the tub - causing most of her baths to be about 2 minutes long. Tonight (within the two minute mark, by the way), Kara decides to stand up, loses her footing and falls face first into the side of the tub. I saw this happening, and could do nothing to stop it - that is the worst feeling ever. We get her face out of the water and bubbles to see what seemed like massive amounts of blood pouring out of her mouth. The poor kid, with shampoo still in her hair, gets hauled out of the tub and sat on the floor, where she proceeds to scream and drool and sputter blood all over herself. Since she is so generously opening her mouth for us, we see that there is a cut in the middle of the top of her tongue - the perfect size and shape of her bottom teeth. Ewwwww!
The pjs get put on in a hurry and we decide that a trip to the ER is in store for us. We realized that they will probably say that there is nothing that can be done, but I needed to hear that from someone else as there is what looks like a half inch long hole in my 16 month old's tongue!
Thank goodness for Mama's friend Ranada who drove us to the ER so Daddy could stay home with the tramatized Jana. (It was a scary sight for a mama, I can only imagine how terrifying it was for a 2 1/2 year old sharing the tub with Kara.)
Kara decided to scream for everyone in the ER, so they were very nice to us and we were actually in and out in well under an hour. The screaming started with them putting on her id bracelet. Seriously !?!?!?! She screamed for about 5 minutes - through the attempt to take her blood pressure - until we took off the bracelet and she was fine. She gave everyone that came anywhere near her the saddest, poutiest face I've ever seen! She also screamed at anyone who tried to touch her. It was a game though, because as soon as they backed off, she'd go back to giving the puppy dog eyes.
She was even nice enough to scream at the doctor; however, at least that made the exam easier because she was head back, mouth open, screaming at the top of her lungs.
We were right and there's nothing that can be done; it will heal nicely on its own in a few days. He was going to give us some drops to help reduce the chance of infection, but then saw the green snot and checked her ears. Sure enough! Another ear infection. Ugh!
While everyone thought she was the cutest thing ever, despite the screaming, and there being nothing that they can do for a tongue with a hole in it, we did leave with a prescription for amoxacillin for the ear infection! At least that will save me a trip to the pediatrician's office next week, right?

We mustn't forget the Mama skills putting direct pressure on that tongue with clean washcloths while Dad was racing to get big girl out of the tub, since she started standing up to look over the edge at the screaming little sister.
The intent was to have Ranada stay with Jana and send Mom and Dad to the ER together, but Jana was just too traumatized. We had to call Grandpa and tell him about our day to get her talked down. He got the full story of smoking out moles in the backyard, playing with the Lego train, and washing Maiya.
On the bright side, I suppose we could pop in some jewelry and send Kara to high school. She'd fit right in.
Oh my poor baby!!!! Sounds like a scary/bad night indeed!
Bless her little heart! Hope she is on the mend!~
LOL at Jeremy!
